Install the Sombra Wallet

Sombra is a Chrome extension. Install it from the Google Chrome Web Store, create your wallet, and send your first post-quantum, signature-free transfer in under 5 minutes.

Requirements

Google Chrome and Chromium based browsers on Windows, macOS, or Linux. Other browsers aren't supported yet.

Confirm the install, then pin the Sombra icon to your toolbar. Updates are automatic.

Set up your wallet

Create or import

Click the Sombra icon in your toolbar.

New to Sombra? Choose Create New Wallet, set an unlock password, and write down your 24-word recovery phrase. It's the only way back to your funds if you lose your device, and nobody at Sombra can restore it for you.
Already have a phrase? Choose Import Seed Phrase and enter your existing 24 words.

Let the wallet take it from here

The first time it opens, Sombra runs a short Get Started guide and handles setup for you, in order:

claims free DevNet SOL for network fees,
grabs a few test tokens to play with (straight from the faucet),
and initializes your private vault on Solana, the moment shielded mode goes live.

Follow the prompts to the end. You never have to leave the wallet to do any of it.

Everything in Sombra is three moves. Shield turns public tokens into private ones, Transfer sends private tokens to anyone, and Unshield sends them back out to a normal Solana wallet. Your funds are private the whole time they're shielded, and you can take them out whenever you want.

Test tokens. This build runs on Solana DevNet. Tokens here are for testing and hold no real value. Sombra hands you free ones during setup.

Shield some tokens

A shielded transfer spends shielded funds, so put some in first. Open Shield, pick a token and amount from what you claimed, and confirm. Those public tokens become private, shielded balances inside your vault.

Send a shielded transfer

Open Transfer, switch to the Shielded tab, and pick one of the four built-in contacts (Alice, Bob, Carol, or Dave) so you always have someone to send to. Enter an amount and send.

Proof generation takes a few seconds on the default remote-server prover, or a couple of minutes with the local prover. The wallet shows live progress the whole way.

Note: Sombra's default remote-server prover runs on NVIDIA Confidential Computing GPUs, and never witness your sensitive data.

Unshield when you want out

Getting funds back into the open is the mirror of shielding. Open Unshield, enter the destination Solana address (or tap Use my wallet for your own), pick a token and amount, and confirm. Sombra moves that amount from your private vault to the public wallet you chose, with the same live progress and proving options as a send.
